Rubber Face (1983)

Release date: 1983 (initial release)
Directors: Rebecca Yates, Glen Salzman
DVD release date: January 23, 2007
MPAA rating: PG Running time: 55 minutes
Cast: Jim Carrey, Adah Glassbourg

The film is the story of a depressed teen struggling for acceptance. High school student Janet Taylor (Adah Glassbourg) feels she has to be the class clown in order to gain the acceptance of her peers. Only through her writing does she reveal her true feelings--that she fears people won't like her as she truly is. For a school essay on "Why People Laugh," Janet visits a comedy club, where she meets dishwasher and aspiring comedian Tony Marone (Jim Carrey). Tony's act is a dud, but he still plans to enter the club's upcoming Battle of the Buffoons contest.

Janet writes some new material for Tony and coaches him on his delivery. Meanwhile, Tony tries to help Janet overcome her lack of self-confidence. He urges Janet to be herself rather than putting on an act. The night of the contest, Tony feigns laryngitis and convinces Janet to take his place on stage. Janet gets off to a shaky start, but eventually overcomes her fears and wins over the audience.

I just watched this movie last night and I must say that I really enjoyed the film. Simply because I could relate to the caractors, growing up myself I've had self esteam  issues all through High School. I would definently recomend thiis to anyone who likes 80's Commedy. Red Sonja (1985)

The tyrant Gedren seeks the total power in a world of barbarism. She attacks and kills the keepers of a powerful talisman just before it is destroyed. Gedren then uses the power of the talisman in her raid of the city Hablac. Red Sonja, sister of the keeper, sets out with her magic sword to overthrow Gedren. The talisman's master Kalidor follows to protect her. Of course they fall in love - however Red Sonja's power bases on the oath to never give herself to any man...

After her family is murdered a young woman named Red Sonja becomes a master of the sword and seeks revenge on the evil queen responsible for the mayhem that has befallen her. Also, it seems the queen has stolen a powerful, carefully guarded, glowing orb right before it was meant to be destroyed, one that has powers of its' own, allowing for the possessor to control elemental forces and call down storms and earthquakes, if they so wish. Kalidor, one of the individuals in place to oversee the destruction of the orb, joins forces with Red Sonja, as their paths may differ, but they ultimately lead to the same place. An impudent, young prince named Tarn and his guard/manservant Falkon, whose kingdom was unceremoniously wiped out by Gerden as a test for her newfound powers, soon joins them.

I highly recomend this film to anyone who wants to
add a great movie to his/hers 80's movie collection. This film is one of my all time favorites. I've watched this movie every time it came on cable TV as a kid, and I still enjoy it now.
